Jessie Douglas Johnson, born on December 19, 1947 to Bert and Hazel Johnson, departed this world, in Visalia, California, on July 29, 2013 at the age of 65 after a courageous battle with COPD. Doug is predeceased by his parents, Bert and Hazel Johnson, and his sister, Elaine. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Johnson, of 34 years. They were married in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 24, 1979. Doug is lovingly remembered by his sons; Brad, Jeremiah, Donny, Cody, and daughter, Mariah, grandchildren; Damien, Seth, Ava, Tatum, Cora, Jackson, and soon to be born, Bonnie; nieces and nephews, Melissa, Devra, Eric, Shandra, Kevin, Sara, Karen, Shari, Allen, and Melinda. Doug is adopted by daughter Lacy and grandchildren; Kylah, Kameron, and Mason. Doug, AKA "Chewy", had a bold banter that no person could resist becoming enthralled with. He made you laugh and cry all at the same time. He was a diehard Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan, and enjoyed watching the games with his kids and grandchildren. He was entertained by anyone who would sit and enjoy a John Wayne movie with him. He enjoyed horseback riding, coaching little league baseball at Clyde Soto Field, country music, dancing and was a talented artist. He always carried his larger than life self-deprecating wit and Texas pride with him and proudly lived as he wanted. Doug will forever be remembered and not forgotten as a charming husband, witty father, and a compassionate grandfather. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2013, 4-8pm, at Hadley-Marcom Funeral Chapel, Visalia. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 2, 2013, 9:30am, at Hadley-Marcom Funeral Chapel, Visalia. Burial immediately to follow t Visalia District Cemetery, 1300 W. Goshen Ave, Visalia, CA 93291. A reception to celebrate Doug's life will take place immediately after the services.
