George was born on April 12, 1918, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to John Elmo and Susan Rosalia Burnett Rush. He passed away peacefully on August 24, 2013, in Visalia, following a brief illness. He served in the U.S Army during WWII from 1942 to 1946. That brought him out to California, where he met his future wife. In June of 1945, he married Dorothy Gallagher, who lived in Visalia. After they got married, thats where they made their home. With the exception of a few years, he has lived in Visalia. He truly loved Visalia. George worked for Standard Oil for a number of years, then the DMV from which he retired. During his time at the DMV, he moonlighted at the Fox Theater, a job which he thoroughly enjoyed. In 1994, Dorothy passed away. He then got involved in volunteer activities. The two jobs that meant the most to him were his ushering duties at St. Pauls Anglican Church, and the Tulare County Sheriffs VIP program. He loved the Kids Court duties most of all. In 2011, he received an award from the State Attorney General for his volunteer work with the Tulare County Sheriffs Office. Shortly after that, he received an award from the Tulare County District Attorney in recognition for his volunteer work with their Kids Court program. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Susan Rush; brother Walstrum; sisters, Betty Steele, and Barbara (Rusty ) Scott, and his dear friend, Jean McClung. He is survived by his two daughters, Kathryn Lack and her husband Greg, and Patty Esau and her husband Ron; his three grandchildren Charlie Lack and his wife Heather, Alison Wohlgemuth-Ryan and her husband Dan, Andrea McElroy and her husband Andy, and step-grandson Scott Esau and his wife Kimberly. He was amazed and grateful that he lived long enough to enjoy his great-grandchildren, Haley and Grant Lack, Jacob Ryan, Cole McElroy, and Sophia Esau. Our family would like to thank Ida Juarez, and Connie Florez, who gave him care and assistance. Their help enabled him to live in his own place, which was very important to him. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Pauls Anglican Church, 120 N. Hall, Visalia, on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to St. Pauls Anglican Church, or the Visalia Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 109, Visalia, CA 93279.
