Our Mom, Phoebe Ann (Brownlow) Griswold, was born in Porterville, California, on March 30, 1919, to her parents Winifred and Oliver Brownlow. Mom graduated from Visalia High School and attended the University of California at Berkley. She met her life partner, Kenneth Griswold, in Visalia where they married on June 29, 1938. We moved to the ranch in East Orosi in 1947. Dad and Mom went into the chicken business raising 27,000 fryers every 3 months. Mom worked as bookkeeper at the East Orosi Sunkist House. On December 25, 1971, returning from Sacramento, our Dad and Grandmother were killed by a drunk driver and Mom and Nancy were severely injured. Mom sold the ranch and moved to Downey, California, where she worked as the bookkeeper for a produce wholesaler. When she retired, she moved to Citrus Heights, California, where she spent several great years with her sister and family. She moved back to Visalia to live out here remaining life. She passed peacefully at her Visalia home November 21, 2014, and was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Winifred Brownlow; her sisters, Gwendylon Richardson and Beatrice Mauvais; and her husband, Kenneth. She is survived by her children, Ronald, Harold, and Nancy and grandchildren. Services are graveside at the Visalia Cemetery on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at 1:00 PM.
