Leroy Gunn

June 26, 1932 — April 18, 2015

Leroy Gunn was born in Strathmore, California to Sam and Jewell Gunn in June of 1932. Leroy passed away April 18, 2015 at the age of 82, at home under the care of his loving wife, and Hospice. Leroy graduated from Mt. Whitney High School in 1951. In his senior year, FFA awarded him with the Degree of State Farmer. He was also a member Demoley Honors Club' and the Vapor Trailer Car Club'. While keeping up his grades, school activities and clubs, he also worked numerous hours on the family farm and ice-creamery. He was an entrepreneur and a hard worker at a very young age. To get his first horse, Leroy and his brother Charlie broke horses to trade for a pony named Beauty. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952, Married Dot Estes in 1953. After only two months of marriage Leroy was sent to Korea for 18 months and 19 days. After completing his service with the Army he returned to the Visalia area and started his life long career of farming. Leroy went through all the chairs of the IOOF, was a member of the Visalia Elks, Moose and Visalia Country Club. Leroy and Dot have been long time members of St. Paul's Church including serving as the church youth group advisors for five years. He invested numerous hours and hard work for local charities including the American Cancer Society and the Whitman Center for under privileged children. Survived by his loving wife of 62 years Dot, daughter Marcie Cornell (Lex), Son Greg Gunn (Amy), Grandchildren Cassie Ezell, Camron Serpa(Joseph), Travis Gunn, Katy Gunn, Great grandchildren Jamesyn Myers, Joseph Cash and Carter Gunn Serpa, and Brother Don Gunn. Preceeded in death by Parents: Sam and Jewel Gunn, Sisters: Emily and Dovie, Brothers: Leonard and Charlie Gunn. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Optimal Hospice' 2439 W. Whitendale St. B', Visalia, CA 93277. Thank you to our loved ones, countless friends and hospice, for all of the prayers and support. Heaven has a new Cowboy Angel. Services will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Paul's Church, 120 N. Hall St. Visalia, CA. Reception will follow at the Visalia Elks Lodge. Hadley-Marcom Funeral Chapel, Visalia is honored to be serving the Gunn Family.
