Maria Magdalena Nunez

May 31, 1950 — January 19, 2023

Maria “Magda” Nunez, went to be with the Lord on January 19th, 2023. She was born in Mexico, to Andres and Emilia Vela on May 31, 1950. She came to the United States at the age of 4 and grew up in Sanger, Ca. Growing up she enjoyed school and was always the top of her class. She put great importance in good nutrition, staying fit, and looking fashionable. So, it was no surprise when she went back to school to be an RN. She graduated from the COS RN program in 1987 and retired in 2008. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, church services, taking walks, and playing with her grandkids with the help of her “assistant”, Lupe, her husband. They began dating in the 8th grade and married shortly after graduating from high school. They welcomed their first child, Steve, a boy in 1972 and then their second and last child, Sonya, a girl in 1974. Their love was unique and inspiring. They spent every day together, enjoying common daily activities others might find tedious but they found enjoyable because they were together. As they aged together, it was evident that Magda suffered from dementia. My father now knows the meaning of 1 Corinthians 13:4, “love suffers long and is kind…” Caring for her had its challenges but placing her in a facility was never an option. After 53 years of marriage, she passed away in her home with him by her side holding her hand. Magda is survived by her faithful devoted “assistant”, Lupe; son, Steve Nunez; daughter, Sonya Martinez; 6 grandsons: Xavier and Daniel Nunez; Devon, Samuel, Thomas, and Zephyr Martinez; one granddaughter, Andrea Lane; and one great grandson; Jackson Evans. She was the first of eight siblings to pass, leaving behind three older brothers; Joe, Andrew, and Robert; two older sisters; Teresa and Yoland; one younger brother; Dario, and one younger sister; Inez. Magda was preceded in death by her parents; Andrew and Emilia Vela; and mother-in-law, Carmen Nunez. She will be forever in our hearts and will be greatly missed.
